Amazon’s Alexa Voice Assistant comes to Android phones

Recently, Amazon announced that it has started rolling out an application update that will enable you to set Alexa as your default voice assistant on android platform. This feature is available on Google Play store only for users who are using an Android phone or tablets running on Android 5.0. To enable this, you need to click “Assist” settings on their Android phone and select Alexa as their default Assist app. After logging in to the app, give it permission to access your contacts, microphone and location. After this, you will be able to interact with Alexa by simply holding down the home button on your phone.
If you are an Android user, you will be able to talk to Alexa using the Alexa app on your phone. It fetches information about the weather, nearby restaurants, movies, music and more. The latest version of Alexa will also now show on screen responses where you can see additional information about weather forecasts, movies, sports updates and show times and calendar appointments among others.
There are some tasks which you can perform using voice commands with Alexa such as:
- You may easily connect with family and friends by contacting them with the Alexa app.
- Your smart home can be managed easily such as you can turn on lights, check the locks or adjust your thermostat from anywhere.
- It can be paired with other Alexa device as a remote control to access advanced features.
- Alexa has many other skills that you can enlist using voice commands.
Alexa can also be selected as the default voice assistant application on devices but only on devices running Android 5.0 and above. You need to tap on the “Assist App” under Assist &Voice Input to select Alexa as the default voice assistant app. Amazon has also introduced Alexa Voice Shortcut Widget that allows you to have access to Alexa at the tap of an icon.
Now, you can quickly access Amazon’s Alexa voice Assistant by holding down the home button and set it as your default personal assistant on your android device.
