- In order to force restart the iPhone 8, Press and quickly release the Volume Up
- Press and quickly release the Volume Down
- Press and hold the Side button until you see the connect to iTunes screen.
How to start your iPhone 8 in DFU mode
- Connect your iPhone to your computer using the USB cable.
- Press and release the Volume Up button, press and release the Volume Down button and press and hold the Side button for 10 seconds until the screen goes black.
- Release the Side button once the screen blacks out, then quickly press and hold both the Side and Volume down buttons together for 5 seconds. The screen should remain black.
- When you open iTunes, you can see a message “iTunes has detected an iPhone in recovery mode. You may restore this iPhone before it can be used with iTunes.”
How to start your iPhone 8 in recovery mode
- Connect your iPhone 8 to your computer using the USB cable.
- Press and release the Volume Up button, press and release the Volume Down button and press and hold the Side button until your device reboots. Continue holding the Side button, even after you see the Apple logo on the screen.
- Release the Side button once you see the Connect to iTunes logo appear on the iPhone’s screen.
- When you open iTunes, you can see a message “There is a problem with the iPhone that requires it to be updated or restored.”Then, you may select to Update or Restore your iPhone’s software.
How to exit recovery mode or DFU mode on iPhone 8
- In order to exit the recovery mode press and hold the Side button until the Connect to iTunes logo disappears.
- To exit the DFU mode on your iPhone, press and release the Volume Up button, press and release the Volume Down button, and press and hold the Side button until you see the Apple logo.
