How to disable “Your Phone” feature on your Windows 10 PC
Windows 10 has a built in feature called “Your Phone” that allows you to connect your iPhone or Android with your PC. By using its “Continue to PC” option, you may send activities to your computer. With this Phone to PC linking feature, you may experience advantage of a larger screen access and extra processing power. If you are working as IT administrator with an IT firm or you don’t want to share your PC with others, you may disable this feature on your Windows 10 PC. Let’s learn how to do that.
How to disable “Your Phone” feature using Group Policy Editor?
You easily disable Phone to PC linking on your Windows 10 pro computer using Group Policy Editor, follow the below given steps to do that:
- Press “Windows key + R“keyboard shortcut to open the “Run” the run command.
- Type “gpedit.msc” and click “OK” to open the “Local Group Policy Editor.”
- Follow the below given path:
Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Group Policy
- On the right side pane, double-click the “Phone-PC linking on this device” policy.
- Select the “Disabled”option, click “Apply” and then click “OK.”
After completing the above given steps, Windows 10 will not allow to access “Your Phone” feature located in Settings > Phone to connect any phone to your computer. If you don’t like the changes, you may re enable it by selecting “Not Configured” for Phone to PC linking on this device.
How to disable “Your Phone” feature using Registry Editor?
If you are using Windows 10 Home, you may not access Group Policy Editor, in such a case you may disable it using registry editor. Before using registry editor, make sure you have a complete data backup of your PC, so that you can restore it in case of any installation damage. Follow the below given steps to disable “your Phone” feature using registry.
- Press “Windows key + R“keyboard shortcut to open the “Run” the run command.
- Type “regedit” and click “OK” to open the “Registry.”
- Follow the below given path:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows
- Right-click the “Windows(folder) key”, select “New” and then click on “Key.”
- Name the key “System”and hit “Enter.”
- Right-click the newly created key, select “New” and then click “DWORD (32-bit) Value.”
- Name the key “EnableMmx” and hit “Enter.”
- Double-click the newly created DWORD key, make sure its value is set to “0” and then click “OK.”
If you don’t like the changes and want to re enable it, you need to right click “System” and click “Delete.”
